Let’s learn about National Parks together!

What is a National Park?

National Parks are protected lands managed by the United States of America’s federal government agencies.  These are large areas of land with wide open spaces waterfalls, natural vistas, trails, and recreational resources and etcetera, all made available to the national public.   Nearly 80,000 acres of wilderness are protected through the National Parks System so that the American People may experience the great outdoors and our heritage.  Many of them also serve as wildlife preservation areas for reintroduction, rehabilitation, and reintegration of endangered species.  As of August 18th in 1970, the National Park System was defined as “any area of land or water now and hereafter administered by the Secretary of the Interior through the National Park Service for park, monument, historic, parkway, recreational, or other purposes.”

How Many National Parks are there in the United States?

At the time of publication, there are 423 national park sites across the US with parks located in almost every state and US territories (including Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and Guam.)
